What have you done to jazz up you head space? There's a lot of blank wall space and open area that could probably be used for additional storage. I don't plan to actually "use" the head...just wondering what accessories are out there that would improve the usage of this area.

I'd look into nets with bungies. Not sure what you have behind to tie into though.
Use the head for #1 and only #2 in emergencies. I tell everyone to go before getting on.

Generally, my colon hits me with an exclamation point! I use my head all season.

Most of the boys go over the side for #1, when no girls are aboard. The girls always use the head. (yes, I am using boys/girls to distinguish between the sexes.)

The head is really convenient at the dock (no bathroom at the marina).

I have a printed & laminated instruction card above the head. I keep black MYLAR bags for anything that shouldn't go into the head.

I haven't quite figured out the mechanics of flushing this thing yet. I like the idea of printing instructions. It would definitely be for #1s only. #2s only in a crisis situation...

It's a bit confusing at first, but pretty simple, once you understand it. Don't be afraid to use it for #2. Just be sure to have marine TP and treat the holding tank.

The next question is....do you actually go offshore to dump #1? I figure everyone pees in the water anyway...

Ordered a suction cup bungie cord net. Figure I can probably store a couple of bumpers in there to free up space.

Concur....but #1? What's the difference of that and just peeing off the swim platform?

1 - The head's holding tank may have #2 or treatment in it.

2 - You don't want to get caught emptying a holding tank in a bay, river, etc.

You can also go to a pump out station, if you don't want to go offshore.

Make sure you have the appropriate placards posted. When I got my boat, the prior owner never posted them... your's is new, so it's 100% on you.. :)

I think I saw you have a manual pump at the head and not a vacuum system. In all cases what I have found most effective to keep the system clean is to always flush with as much water as possible. My Vacu FLush systems on the old boat (two heads) did not ever need a duck bill replaced. Of course #2 avoidance is another good thing and the ABSOLUTE issue is not to flush paper towels, shore WC TP, etc. Some do have the Mylar bags for items that do not belong in the head and that is good practice to keep all clean.
On my 335 the vacuflush uses freshwater which is nice as the salt water with the manual pumps tend to cause some corrosion around the pump itself over time. So cleaning the area is a frequent required choir.
Otherwise main RULE is to use all systems frequently that way they stay in shape and do work when you want/need them to work.

Good Motoring

being on a boat and having to drop a deuce pretty much sums up a "crisis"

In my 25+ years of boating I've actually never dropped a deuce on a boat before, knock on wood. The only time where I ever came close to being in an "emergency" situation was actually last summer. I was fishing for salmon and got one within about 30 minutes of being out, but the following couple hours after that were pretty slow. Then I have no idea what happened, if I turned or bent over in a weird way, but I went from not even thinking about needing to drop a deuce to being at like an 8 out of 10, with a 10 being imminent. I pulled up the gear, cruised back in, put the boat on the buoy, climbed over onto my kayak to sit in and paddle back into the cabin. When I climbed in, it hit me. Slowly and very methodically I paddled back into the beach, where it was unfortunately a low tide that I had to walk over to get back to the cabin. Halfway between the waterline and the cabin it hit again and thought I was going to have a "code brown" situation right in front of the entire beach. Luckily it was only about 8:30 or so in the morning and most people were still asleep or indoors and didn't have any idea as to what was going on. I made it back to my cabin in the nick of time and it was a near photo finish. As mentioned above, I always try to go before going out on the boat and then not eating much while I'm out there so that I can hopefully avoid any "issues" while fishing.
