I have a 2002 Sailfish 282, beaut boat. The standard pedestal seats make a lot of noise. Noise comes from where the rotating seat base fits onto the vertical pedestal.I have cleaned the fitting, I don't want to lubricate them as they have friction locking mechanisms. What can I do to stop the noise!!

I use bee's wax and have no issue. Seats will still lock. Just rub a thin layer on the post and re-mount the seat and you should be good to go.

Option 1: The plastic bushings do wear out but before you try to replace them, try putting a bit of grease on the TOP of the pedestal, not the sides. It may be that the rubbing of the top is what is making the noise. While there check the plastic bushing to see that it still is intact.
Option 2: Turn up the stereo

I have marine wheel bearing grease where the seat base slides onto the pedestal. That friction stop works just fine.

Ok, thanks for your help guys. A few alternatives for me to try this weekend.

I have also.. No issues with locking the seat in place

The bushings get lubricated, otherwise they wear out. I prefer motor grease. The blue stuff.

Easy, thanks guys the grease worked perfectly. L
