How do you raise and lower this light?

Looks like a Phillips head screw should be loosened on the side and then you should be able to adjust? It looks like that screw tightens two pieces with interlocking teeth when screwed in?
might be that there was originally a thumb screw that was lost and replaced with a Phillips head screw possibly?

Mine has a plastic wing nut. Lost one a few years back but found that they use them on toilet bowl lids.

I figured something had to be missing. It didn't make sense to need tools to raise or lower a light mounted on top of a hardtop.

I replaced mine two years ago when I refinished the hardtop. Shorter version same as had before. It's hard to reach up there but the nut is set tight enough I can raise and lower with one hand without have to adjust it.

Do remember which one you bought?
I was hoping this one was friction or spring/tooth interlock type set up that would enable me to simply lift or lower it. That appears to not be the case.
The base on the factory unit is pathetically small. Because it can move so easily, and wouldn't surprise me if I have water intrusion.

There should be a thumb screw such as this where that phillips screw is. You can buy various diameters, lengths and threads in stainless steel from many sources. Lowes, Home Depot, Ace Hardware and McMaster and Carr.

I have the same light and I just use a broom handle to reach the light and just push it upright. I never tighten or loosen it and it always stay in place.

I've tried to adjust it to do the same thing, but it won't. I wonder if it once had a spring that is no more.

it may be just to tight - you can use a big flat head screwdriver in the fitting to loosen it a bit.
