How far off is MSRP?

I am considering buying a 336 Canyon - like many, i assumed used is the way to go to not absorb the initial depreciation

i happened to talk to a dealer who had a new boat on the lot - it is minimally equipped (no generator, a/c, etc) (or electronics) and has a list price of $328K, but he says he can make a good deal on it - without any prompting or negotiating he emails me a price of $238K

my question is does GW so inflate MSRP that such a large "discount" (to me at least) is par for the course? - or is this guy particularly anxious to move this boat (he says they only recently got it, so hard to imagine the latter)

thanks

Could be any number of things...

GW has already "released" their 2016s. Is the boat a 2015? Or a 2014?

Sounds like a stripped down model? Was it ordered for a customer who never took delivery? What kind of power on the back?

He's paying the floor plan...particularly if it's a model year or two old...it may be that GW has incentive money to make it go away. Either way, it sounds like something worth investigating.

[IT IS A 2015]

[IT IS STRIPPED DOWN - HERE ARE THE OPTIONS ON TOP OF THE BASE MODEL:

DUAL 350'S
BOW THRUSTER
BOW TABLE
GEL COAT - FOG BLUE
2ND LIVE WELL
OUTRIGGERS (ADJUSTABLE ON TOP, NOT W CRANK)
(AND HE IS STICKING ON 4K FOR DELIVERY....NOT AN OPTION, BUT EXTRA)

THE MAIN THING IT DOES NOT HAVE IS THE GENERATOR AND ALL THAT GOES WITH IT: A/C, CHILLED FISH BOX, MICROWAVE, ETC

IN TERMS OF RESALE, HOW UNDESIRABLE DOES THIS MAKE IT? (IF YOU ARE GETTING IT AS AN UPFRONT DISCOUNT, MAYBE THAT MAKES UP FOR IT??]

[WHAT DO YOU MEAN "HE IS PAYING FOR THE FLOOR PLAN"? - MEANING HE HAS CARRYING COST TO KEEP IT ON SITE?]

Floorplan is essentially interest on the loan that he used to buy the boat in the first place. Manufacturers work with financial institutions to manage the financial commitment the dealer has to make to carry inventory.

GW may have some additional incentive money allocated to the dealer once this boat sells...

Either way - if it's what you want and can live with what it "doesn't have" optionswise, I'd take a hard look at it....
