Looking good,I read a post you spent some time in Charleston, I live in upstate sc,but spend lot of time there, brother on James island, daughter at c of c,and possible future soninlaw at citidal

I was stationed in Charleston in the Navy. I fished, but mostly at night. I did not "do" a lot there as I did not want ties....when it came time for re-enlistment, I wanted it to be my choice, not force.. heh. Too many guys came back from a 6-month cruise with a 3-month pregnant wife, so.. ..drinking, fishing...heh. I was young and single.

I almost went to USC and the Citadel was an option, but I missed Texas so came back. I still have a lot of friends up around Union etc. Such a beautiful state.

I would hang out at the Battery late at night and listen to my music....had to be careful there though.. lot of scammers and other 'unfavorable' elements (at the Battery late at night) :P

My son went to usc, don't go downtown at night, mostly fish out on follybeach, had a16 ft cc but got a 91 seafarer, still getting to know this boat before I head offshore, luckydude been a great inspiration to me,may have to do a brisket tomorrow

We did shrimping in the intercoastal but too many guys I knew took far too many risks so I fished off the ship and a few times with others.

Different times indeed back then.

I want to run up the intercoastal, maybe to myrtle beach and back, can't get down there till septembers, then watch out for hurricanes, lots of places to explore and fish

Yea, we rode out hurricane hugo when I was there. That’ll put hair on your chest lol

No, we were underway at sea. We skirted it as much as we could, but it was not something you want to do on a regular basis that is for sure.

Still, I think the worst waves were going through the Straights of Gibralter during a storm. We took about a 27 degree roll in more than one wave. I had to sound the tanks fore and they had 2 lines attached to be and a third going backwards.

We were making the turn to go behind the breakwater coming into Luanda, Angola. Seas were not rough, but BIG ground swells. We got beam to coming off a big swell, and took back-to-back snap rolls in the 40's. Put the main deck in the water on both sides, and were very luck not to have any MOB. Thought we were going down.

Yea, you develop a pretty healthy respect for the ocean when you ride through that stuff. I actually had to turn off the movie "Perfect Storm" the first time I saw it.. just freaked me out. Does not bother me now, but the Straights .. when you are out there on the deck tied to rope... and all you see is a huge wave. Scared, but young and stupid so.. I was like, "you bet, I'll go"...

Anyway, I do not take risks like that anymore.. heh

I will admit, being off the water for a few years, took me an hour or so to feel comfortable again. Time before last, I was lost. I was looking at the gps and the same IC I had traveled hundreds of times and I had no idea where I was.

I was relying too much on my gps, which had not been set up. This time, I closed my eyes a moment.. felt the waves, and then just looked at the shore and the sky and took off where I needed to go. Felt good to be back out there. I still felt the waves 2 days after I got back.. heh
