Today we installed an Airmar B60 and yamaha fuel flow sensor and ran the wires through the starboard side rigging tube up to the deck plate at the base of the helm. I can't figure out how in the world to run wires up to the electronics box. I pulled out the instrument panel- looks like all my wiring from the electronics box goes up behind the dash- then runs down through an impossibly narrow area along the side, then magically finds it's way to under the helm. Even with a hardened steel wire puller probing around, I can't get through. Do I need to pull the helm off? How am I supposed to run the huge transducer connector up there? :bang

can you post some pictures...sometimes the manufacturer will leave a string or additional wire that can be used to pull through the new wires...if not you may need to tie and tape (black electrical tape works best) a couple of wires to an existing wire and pull it through, use one of those wires you just pulled through to pull the original wire you used to back up to the electronics box and use the other wire to pull through your transducer wire..its a pain but it can be done

What a tough job! Ended up pulling the whole dash panel off- not a very easy task. Had to remove the hinges, then drill out the threaded rivets and cut the caulking. Then I had to remove the existing Garmin wires, transducer wire, and water pickup tube in order to make enough room to yank the new transducer and fuel flow sensor wires though. Jeeez.

I'm guessing your talking about getting into the helm box and not the overhead.

There is a cover inside the helm box that needs to be removed. It's a plastic piece about 8 inches long.

From the inside of the cabin there a piece of carpeted trim about 2 x 3 inches with a single screw attaching it to the bulkhead. Remove the screw and pull e piece loose.

Open the latch and swing the box down. You should have enough of an opening to get your wires inside the box now. It will still take some persuasion to get them through, especially the transducer cable.

No, we couldn't get the wires from under the helm up into the dash area above the electronics box. Here's what we had to strip it down to. The transducer plug for a SIMRAD is HUGE.

I'm assuming you removed the bulkhead to get from the rigging tube to the area under the dash?

If you still can't get the plug through, you may have to drill another hole....on both my 226 and 228 I reamed out the drain hole to make it big enough to pass the plug through. I knew that I was covering up the box with a panel and water intrusion wasn't going to be a problem, so no need for the drain tube.

No, I got the wires in. If you see the red and yellow wires down to the bottom right- there is a very small opening down there that goes down to behind the helm. There's a fold of carpet in there too that that the wire plugs have to push through. Maybe it's just the way this boat was put together. I was afraid of taking a carpet knife up in there- most likely would have cut a wire. It's all good now. Waiting for my dash panel to get here from FLmarineplastics then I can start wiring it all up.
