Just looking at a second hand Grady White. Do the hull ID numbers represent the year of manufacture, i have been told this one is iether 2000 model or a 1997 model?

Thank you very much the alst numbers are 697 so i would think that it would be June 07 build. This is a bit different to the rego papers station 2000.

It is likely the boat is a 1999, but whoever bought it registered it as a 2000 because that is likely when they purchased it or actually registered it and they did not know any better.

Am I missing something here?

If the last two numbers are 97 that would make it a 1997 model,,how are the registration papers coming up with a 2000 model? Best that I can remember the last 2 numbers are the year, they have nothing to do with the month.

If Absolute is right, then it would be a June of 1997 build, not 2007. If not, then it is still a '97 model boat and the 6 is from the consecutive numbers given to the boats as they were built in '97.

Keeping in mind this boat is registered in Australia. I beleieve over here you could register the boat with the year whatever you like, its not till you have an insurance claim or require a survey on the vessel that you would have a problem. The main reason for asking was in relation to the power rating. Thanks again all for your input

the #s will indicate the year built and also the model year. Mine is an 88 228 that was built in 87 (according to my surveyor).

mine ends in "788", so the last 2#s indicate the model year and the 3rd to last indicates the build year.

Per the survey:

YEAR BUILT 1987, 88 model

Hull Id. #

The last two numbers denote the year (example) 7654399 it was built in 1999.
Good luck, Joe.
Not exactly correct. The last two digits are the model year and the third last digit is the build year. The fourth last digit is a letter representing the build month. Boats built after a certain date in a year can list the build year as the next year. For example, a model year 2019 built late in 2018 will have a HIN ending in 919, whereas a 2019 model year built in July of 2018 will have a HIN ending in 819.
The cut off date for the build year used to be July I believe but was changed a while back to later in the year (I don't remember the new cut off date) due to petitions from the manufactures to use a latter date.

In the quoted example, a HIN that ends in 399 would be a red flag since it is just about impossible that the company started to build a 1999 model in 1993!
