I have a Garmin 24 Xhd radar. I originally mounted it directly to my hard top. The results were ok, but I was missing targets which in my radar novice opinion was not acceptable.
I bought a seascan wedge and it is 3 degree down . It raises the radar 2-3 inches off the top too. My initial review is my target acquisition improved a fair amount and enough to justify the expense for sure.
I was on lake murrary and picked up kayakers which mounted directly to the top I would have to jack up the gain. With the wedge it was not a problem. Targets that are to either quarter improved a good bit too. Giving the boat a wedgie really helped my radar perform better.
