Minimum 150 HP. If it’s a 2 stroke outboard that will provide some added power vs 4 stroke. If you can find a 175 or 200 you wouldn’t regret it. Repower with an I/O would probably be a little easier but I’d suggest the bracket and outboard route… would probably provide for a better resale for you in the future, creates space you could use for a live well or something. But if you can find a replacement mercrusier of the same size that you have, it might save you some time to go that route.

Blown our power head on the original 1991 two stroke Yamaha 200 TXRP in November 2020 and we repowered our 1991 Grady White Seafarer 228G in July 2021 with a 2020 Yamaha four stroke F250 XB along with a new Armstrong Gil Bracket. Ordered outboard bracket from Armstrong in the beginning of December 2020 and it was delivered in early July 2021. Expect long delays for an engine bracket and a new outboard engine. I recommend that you consider a 225 hp or 250 hp four stroke outboard.
