So, as mentioned in an earlier post, I have a shot at buying an 82 Tarpon 19..all there minus the O/B. Best tips on checking on transom and stringer issues. Does it matter that the boat is in hot/dry AZ??

thanks in advance for your guidance

Look for brown stains around hardware on the transom. Brown stains mean rust or rot...but GW has always used pretty good quality SS. Sound the transom and stringers with a hard plastic mallet or the handle of a large screw driver. Dull thud means rot.

If the fuel tank hasn't been replaced, it is a pretty sure bet that it will need to be.
Looking at the transom for stains won't tell you what shape it is in. A leather or plastic hammer may help you determine if there is delamination. A moisture test would be better but has to be done by a knowledgeable person. Of course since there is no motor, you should be able to probe the mounting holes and see how the coring looks
