I am interested in finding options for Boat insurance northeast coast. Trying to keep costs down this year, but still have adequate coverage. I have been using Travelers for my 258 Journey. Interested in hearing who others use. Thanks

I had a 20 percent premium increase with Boat/US this year due to Hurricane Sandy.....even with the increase, they were still the cheapest.

I recommend you contact BoatUS and get information about their "Angler" policies. http://www.boatus.com/angler/insurance.asp

We have the Angler's Best policy and I believe it is the best combination of coverage (we fish 80nm offshore), price, and service. We pay for insurance so we can get the assistance we need when we need it, and BoatUS is one of the best in that regard.

All of our other insurance - cars, house, life - is with USAA.

I switched to Charter Lakes Marine Ins. Saved about $300 over my prior carrier on my 265. Have not had a claim but they are very responsive so far. www.charterlakes.com

I have a good friend who's family has been writing insurance for classic and non classic boats for years. They are in Chicago and can write policies for all 50 States. I have used them for many years to cover all of my Classic Whalers and now my Grady too. Since they own 5 Museum Quality Classic vessels themselves, they know how to properly insure vessels for their true market value and not just he NADA values. He is a very knowledgeable guy who may be able to help. All of my policies through them have been Safeco policies and they have always been the best rates I could find.

Let him know Jeff Rohlfing referred you.

Hope this helps....

I have Nationwide homeowners and car insurance. I just got my boat insurance through them, which added to my multi-policy discount. I'm sure yours probably has boat owners insurance too. Then you'd qualify for the multi-policy discount. I got full coverage on my boat, trailer, and gear, with free towing, and only added $30/month to my payment.

Travelers too. Agreed value policy. Rates have been fairly stable, up very small amounts over the years.

We live on the coat of Maine and use Cross Insurance. I went to them when our boat premium increased through State Farm. I was only looking to insurance the boat but did sit down and let them go over all our stuff. We saved over $1,000.00 annually on everything. I have not had a claim (knock on wood) so I have no idea how they are to deal with in the time of need.
