Is the snow gone yet?

Just got back from the New England Boat Show. I want my boat in the water!!!

Looking to do the commissioning myself this spring. I have a couple questions:

1. 2001 Yamaha 130 2 stroke (dont have the model number but can get it, 6ft of snow around my boat). What type of spark plugs are recommended and/or is there a gap distance that I should be looking for?

2. Fuel/water filter. 10 micron is what I think I need. Is this a standard size? Do I need to purchase based upon my engine size or fuel tank size? Seems relatively easy to change...

3. Checking the batteries...both are new within the last 2-3yrs and have been stored inside. How/what is the best way to make sure they are in proper working order?

4. Should I spray the inside of the engine with any sort of lubricant to make sure all the moving parts are ready for use?

I know this is a common thread in almost any forum but I need your help!

5. What is the best product to clean out the bilge? I heard simple green is great for this...just let it soak and then scrub/rinse?

There should be s sticker inside the cowl somewhere with the proper NKG Sparkplugs model. I have never sprayed anything into the motor in the spring as long as it was put away properly. Throw the batteries on a charger unless they have been on a maintenance charger over the winter and see how it goes, I would imagine they should be ok but you never know. Not sure on the filter, I have always replaced with the same racor filter that was in it from the dealer, but 10 micron sounds familiar.

Star-Bright makes some products I like. The hull and the deck cleaner work great, I think they have a bilge one too.

I was hoping to uncover the boat and start working on it for April, but with all of this snow who knows when it will melt!

Do a google search on your year and hp motor, should be easy enough to find plugs. If you only have one spin on filter 10 micron is fine. A single 2 micron may get gunked up faster. 10 is in the middle and a good choice I would dump it halfway through the season also. Best way to check the batteries is to pop the caps make sure the electrodes are still submerged and not dry. Put them on a charge at 2 amps or so for a day or two then load check them. Zep makes a great degreaser it comes in a purple gallon jug and I usually cut it with water when cleaning the bilge. Forget the name of it I think heavy duty industrial degreaser.
