Saw this on sale at west marine and get 3x points. fits size criteria for install and budget. would need cable extension as is only 15 ft. do not fish much over 250ft and usually under 150. seems like a good deal to me. but really would appreciate input

This is a good value. It doesn't support a larger Garmin network (Radar, multiple screens) but if that isn't in your plans you are good to go.

Also the West 3X points for a 12% West credit is a great deal. And the unit is on sale. Garmin doesn't let the dealers discount their units and this is the only way I have been able to get a "discount". In December I bought a 8642xsv for $4,000 and got $480 back in certificates. Another GreatGrady member bought a GMR18 Fantom on 5X points (20% back) weekend for $2,200 with $440 back.

Its a good deal on that model with the 3x points. That is an older model so they can discount it.
It is combination touch screen and buttons.

The Echo series is a good fit for a small boat with a single screen and no radar.
It does not have Garmin Marine Network so it can't display radar and can't be linked to other MFDs.
It does have NMEA 2k so it does share and get certain data from other devices
It does not have a J1939 port for Yamaha motor data.
It does not have WiFi.

IMO, a Marlin deserves better

I have raymarine mfd with ev 150 auto pilot but does not have sonar module. if i would ever want radar, engine info, i could tie into that plus the new 9 in ray is twice as much. all i am looking to do is upgrade from my present garmin gps fishfinder and not break the bank. marlin prob deserves more not so sure about me!
