Just picked up an ugly old 1977 Grady..

Just picked up an ugly old 1977 Grady.. It’s a dual console 19’ or 20’ boat. It has a small cabin. What model would this be?

Good luck, ENJOY! I will be so bold as to suggest that you will benefit from a pressure washer. 1977 models below.
Dolphin likely. Get your hull id # off the transom, upper starboard corner in modern history, not sure about 1977. Get your questions written down, and call the GW factory in Greenville, NC. The tech desk will answer all your questions cheerfully, and quickly.

From the side angle, single pic you posted and limited description, I'm going to go with 1977 200 Dolphin.

Not trying to be a downer but before you invest a lot of time polishing that up, and it WILL polish up nice...

1977....there is a good chance that it doesn't have self-bailing deck.
Boat has been under a tree for at least a decade
Leaves clog up bilge, boat soaks up water.
I see boats like that in yards all over Ocean County. They never want to let the dream die.

Something made them park that boat.

I've seen a lot of nicer, newer boats that guys loved and maintained every year and still weren't worth fixing.
It will never be worth the time and money to anyone else so it needs to be the journey that you are after.

take a good look at the transom, deck, stringers, fuel tank, wiring, seats,steering, battery...
I can't see it but I don't have much hope for the motor either. Might even be a 20" transom.

I could be wrong. Just giving you a brutally honest opinion based on experience.

edit: Nice brochure!... yep 20 " transom, foamed in aluminum tank, No scuppers...

I’ve been playing with boats since my first Murphy Lonestar when I was 12 years old. I’ve owned a property on navigable water for 29 years and I’m now 56. I think I’ll be alright thanks.... oh and by the way, I‘ve probably owned at least 50 boats through my life. I’m always flipping Boats. Personslly I’ve always been partial to the Wellcraft Airslot....

I had an old 84 Wellcraft V20 for 18 years. Very similar to that Dolphin. Over the years I added a hardtop, new motor, new aluminum fuel tank, electronics, lots of customizing, poured a new transom.
Eventually I was at a point of do a full cap-off stringer/deck/paint restoration and die with that boat or move up to a bigger boat...

I have pretty much 0 money into the Dolphin. If it passes some tests and wants to play nice. It might hang out for awhile. I actually bought the boat for the motor. And well, the trailer’s an 07 sea lion, So it’s not bad either... but we’ll see, I’ll clean the Dolphin up a bit, set it up temp, take it out on the short chop, see how it does. If I like it, I’ll move forward with it... but I’m pretty sure they were more liberal with the fiberglass back in the 70’s So I think it has a chance... but thanks for your concern.
