On my last trip offshore last Fall, I noticed steering fluid leaking from under the steering wheel. It was a very very slow but steady leak which eventually stopped after an hour or so. I believe there are some gaskets that can be replaced in the steering column and was hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

If its a SEASTAR helm, its more than likely the seering shaft seal . Pull the wheel off and there should be three screws around the shaft, remove them to expose the rubber seal . Pick it out and replace. you should be able to find them through any seastar dealer .
I beleive I found mine at Morehead marine in Morehead CITY NC.

Sounds like the quad-ring (a squarish o-ring). It's really easy if you don't have tilt steering, then it's easy. You're going to loose some when you pull the old ring out, just re-fill the helm and you're OK.

You're right GROG it is a quad ring. I keep a few in the center section of the wheel itself. I always know where they are then.

How many do you go through? It's a wear item but they should last a quite a while.

I've only changed it one time three or four tears ago. When I bought them they were stupid cheap like .50 cents apiece . I bought four I believe and just put them in the wheel. My thought was it was cheaper to have some on hand than it would be to have to go find them again. :D
