Leaking Waste Tank

Hello ~
Easy question I hope……(yea, right)
So the newbie at the marina proceeded to put 7 gallons of fuel into the waste pump out on my 2018 Freedom 307. After pumping fresh water/soap into the tank to clean out, fuel and water was showing up into the hull, being pumped out by bilge pumps. Is there an overflow or vent that discharged this at the holding tank or is it a Leakey tank gasket? Anything else needs to be done?

To add more info: When adding water at the pump out, the tank holds the water until it is overfilled and thats when it leaks into the hull.

What type of system do you have?

That should be easy enough to diagnose based on your second post. What's loose? Do you have a carbon filter? Look at the fittings/hoses - inlet. fill, vent, pump out... the only other thing is a crack in the tank.

It is a Jabsco electric head - Where is the access to the tank. If I can get at it it would be easy to see where it’s leaking. Thanks in advance.

There is a vent hose from the top of the holding tank to a vent on the side of the boat. Overflow should vent out there. Sounds like the vent hose is disconnected from the top of the tank.

Don't blame the nubie on the dock - its on you to know which cap to remove and fill with what.

You have a real mess with fuel in the holding tank. Safety, environmental and disposal.

Talk to the marina people to see if their service department can help get that tank emptied.

I can't help with the location - I know the systems of boats quite well, but not the ins and outs of every boat out there and where things are located. You're in a better position than me to find it. It's not like it's a tiny thing - just start poking around and opening things up. It sounds like you haven't done this, in general, yet... this should be something you do regardless of the issue... if you want to do your own maintenance, that is.

On my boat there is a panel behind the toilet. Remove it and you can see the tank.

Thanks for the replies. If you own a Freedom 307, the waste holding tank is in the cubby/aft panel, in front of the helm. As it turns out, the access service hole on top of the tank was completely off. It had to have not been installed from the factory. Good news is it’s back on and the system checks good with over flow coming out the vent now. As some previous posts state, the screen in the vent had crud on it and a pick was able to bust it out. One more for the books. I always wanted to be 6’2” but now wish I was 5’2” as these tight places aren’t meant for a big guy!

As a general rule, the tank most likely is close to where the pump out fitting is mounted. The vent won't be too far away either.

Had you been using the head? If so and the tank was open, I would expect you to have a pretty crappy odor in the boat.
