Left for dead 98 248 Voyager

Thought I would share this Voyager I picked up for 12k a few months ago. It was abandoned at a marina after the owner passed away. Not the exact hull I wanted, but for the money it should work.

I did check compression on the motors prior to buying it, but other that just drug it home. Much to my surprise the old Yamaha's fired right up on a protable tank and seem to run pretty good. Haven't had it in the water yet, hopefully will soon. Working now to inspect the tanks and get all of the fuel lines replaced. The steering hoses were bad so I replaced those.

The hull has a pretty good scar from the trailer or a boat lift. Looks to me to just need gelcoat work. The glass seems to be fine.

The electronics box and radios were missing, but I was able to find one on Marketplace. Got that installed with a pair of new radios. Next step will be moving the Garmin unit that was on the boat up to the electronics box and mounting a 16" Lowrance in the dash. Picked up the Lowrance after I mounted the radios, so some re-work to do there. I'm making an aluminum plate for the dash to mount everything.

I installed new LED cockpit and spreader lights. Lots of wiring left to fix. Washdown pumps, etc.

The trailer needed a ton of work. New tires, leaf springs, bunk brackets, and wiring. Still plenty to do. The winch post is cracked.

Almost forgot how much work this was going to be. Cobia season will be here soon!

If the transom is sound, you have a diamond in the rough. That boat will run like a scalded dog with those engines once they are 100%.
The bottom damage is from rubbing the cross member of the trailer. Get cross member pads or rollers for the cross members to prevent further damage.

To me, that's a cool project. For the money, as long as the bones are good, you can invest in it and have a nice platform for fishing. Keep the rehab pics coming.

Good points. It has the roller in the front and a pad on the rear crossmember. Could have hit one the axles on a steep ramp or those were added afterwards.

The transom seems solid jumping on the motors and sounds good with a mallet. I'm going to put new sealant on the two joints and screws. I guess time will tell.

While you are at it, apply sealant around the splash well drains till you have a chance to replace them. They are GWs favorite planned obsolescence feature to contribute to transom rot and/or delamination!

Funny. My dad had the predecessor to the Adventure. He sold it and I bought the 248 when I was about your age. We ran it for 10 years and I bought the 270. In case you are wondering what the future might hold for you!

Good looking project boat. Can you tell me if those outrigger mounts are supported from underneath. Is there an aluminum plate or starboard? Or anything at all.

They're not supported at all. I'm going to make some backing plates. Ideally I'd like to weld those backing plates to the frame, but would probably invole pulling the hardtop and wiring out. Takes a good bit of heat to tig those.

Little progress on the dash and side panels. I may end up ordering some stuff to build a new switch panel. All of these work, but those backlit etched switches would sure look nice.
