Live well pick up

I purchased a 1991 Overnighter that had the cut out transom replaced with full Coosa transom. When they did this it seems they removed and glassed over where the pick up for live well and wash down was. I like the idea of functioning live well and usable wash down but I’m debating drilling a hole for this and also where I would drill. Any thoughts/suggestions/input would be appreciated!

Livewell and washdown pick ups are typically not on the transom. They would be out of the water at speed. I’d look somewhere for a closed seacock or another through hull somewhere else on the boat.

Thanks, that was my thoughts also. The old hoses were still on the boat and from their length and how they were bent it seems like it may have been through the transom. The pick up was probably through the hull near the transom. There is no seacock anywhere on the boat now and I do not see any tell tale signs of where hole would have been patched or covered up. The small hatch over the bilge is really the only place I have access to the hull so I guess this is where I would drill if going forward.

It may be that a previous owner installed the livewell option and didn't do it properly. That same job could well have been one of the reasons that the transom rotted. Can't say for sure but as mentioned the pickup ( scoop type) should be under the boat, not through the transom

If this was your original set up, is the hatch in front of the motor your livewell, or your bilge access. Or is your livewell one of the hatches at the end of the walkaround?

I assume you have looked on the bottom of the hull from the outside to find any visible through hull fittings or patches.

This. Patches may be tough to find if there's bottom paint (and sort of a moot point), but let's start with whether or not there actually are some thru-hulls - the bottom is the easiest place to figure this out.

IF there is no thru-hulls - cut a hole where it is convenient towards the last 6' or boat or so - and avoid lifting strakes. It's just a hole - done right it will be just fine... and it's not really all that hard. If you're uncomfortable with it, just hire someone. It won't be too expensive.

Anybody know what the hole in the transom is, halfway down the bottom paint, port side, in the first 15 seconds of video(a better look at 0:50)? If it's a pick up, it would only work drifting or anchored.

'97 268 Islander. Clamshell water pickups to left and right of transducer. Baitwell and saltwater washdown pumps. These are accessible thru the battery compartment and deck plate at the back of the cockpit.

Not really sure what a "cutout transom" is. Mine has a Euro transom where the running surface is about 2 feet short of the transom and the extension has the effect of a bracket. The thru hulls should be well forward of any transom work they did.

That is the floor drain, in front of passenger seat. Livewell drain would be aft on that model
