Need to replace the live well pump. Any tips on removing the lid in order to get the well out? Can't hold the nuts and unscrew the top Philips head at he same time. Any advise on this project is appreciated.

I pulled mine out in my 228. The lid comes out easy with 4 screws, then the actual livewell has screws around the top, then you have to reach in where the battery lid is to disconnect 2 hoses the raw water and drain hose those are a little bit of a pain.
The lid is my PIA. I can't hold the nut underneath the lid and close it enough to get to the philips head on top. I finally got all the screws from around the top of the well itself out last night but the four hinge screw lids are tough to hold and unscrew at the same time. Was hoping there is a top secret GW method of doing this.

im curious where your pump is relative to the live well. my live well pump is in the bilge under the transom seat hatch. super easy to get to
Its 228 seafarer Its below the well that sits between the two stern seats. Only access is to pull the livewell to get down into the bilge area. KYGrady has a really good picture on here somewhere but I can't find it right now.

where are your sea cocks? i assume you can easily access them, right? i wonder why they wouldnt be close to them

All our sea cocks and pumps are under the livewell on the 228. New Rule 2000 bilge pump in top pic, old Attwood 1250 in bottom pic. Livewell pump pictured also.

I know it’s been said here before but you can drink out of that bilge, also what are those wires used for that are coming out of your drain plug hole?

Ky what's that about half way up on the livewell hose? Some type of filter? if so what kind and main purpose? Ok also I got the lid off. It wouldn't come out without taking the lid off but the 4 back screws don't have nuts they just screw straight into the fiberglass. Got the intake hose off but can't get the drain hose loose. Any suggestions? can you unscrew the drain from the top?

That’s an anti siphon, or back flow valve in the hose. IIRC, I removed the drain hose from the through hull, and pulled it out with the live well.
Everyone is right it is a PIA. Trying to get the old livewell pump off without breaking it off. Tomorrows project. Maybe I'm just getting old but pretty sure my wallet would have hurt less than I do today.
Ok an old strap oil wrench 4 3/4 in extensions and a long handle torque wrench socket I decided it was go time. It was either going to break off or come out. It took a good bit of pressure but it finally broke free. Found whoever put the last one on used 4200 sealant on the threads. But it’s out and now onto the installation phase.
