I was cruising around the islands in the Great Barrier Reef off the Queensland coast in Australia and saw a white object on the beach. Anchored up and swam in to find a 2010 model, 15 foot polycraft (plastic) boat that was banged up boat still seaworthy.
We emptied her out, dragged her off the rocks with the GW and some rope and then dragged her 45 miles back home
Dragged it out of the water onto my GW trailer, dropped off in the yard and then went back and picked up the GW.
Called the police and then after a few weeks we made contact with the insurers of the boat and found that it had broken from its mothership during a storm and drifted 300 miles. I reckon she had bounced off quite a few of the Whitsunday Islands and the motor had been broken off but the hull was in good condition.
I have ended up negotiating a deal with the insurer and they gave me the boat for compensation for salvaging and bringing back to the mainland. I have started cleaning her up and just about to put a 60HP motor on.
Pretty cool story and highlights that it is worth keeping an eye out when you are on the water.....
