Hi everyone
We have been looking at used 270 Islanders. The layout seems to fit our needs and we really like these boats.
Anything specific we should watch out for on these models? At least one we have seen had the metal transom cap angle almost completely eaten away which worried me.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

The Islander is a great boat. I was considering a 2001 that was re-powered but decided to go with a new boat instead. You need to get a good survey and make sure that the surveyor uses a moisture meter. At the age of any Islander you're at risk for having a moisture issue. Good luck

Thanks very much for the reply and good advice. We really like the Islander.
Are there really that many wet transoms post 2000? I thought is was mostly earlier models.
We are trying to stick with boats stored out of the water.
That said, anyone have an idea on cost to remove the metal angle and seal the transom properly?

Great site with lots of info!

Had ours since new. Put 465hrs on the original single 250hp OX66, and now over 1400hrs on the twins. Thousands of miles. Great boat.

We purchased a 2000 Islander with a single 250. It's a bit underpowered and will look to go to either a single 300 or twins down the line. Ours was in really good condition and ocnslr has been a tremendous asset in answering my questions about it. He's got a lot of time and love invested in his.

We, like you, found the boat's seating to be a great asset.

Thanks for all the feedback. I think we have several possibles.
Saw the California one online but unfortunately wrong coast for us; thanks for the tip though.
Good to know owners are happy with their boats and are willing to share expertise--I'm sure we will need plenty of help if we find one!

FYI: Contacted Grady and got a very quick response on bunk dimensions for trailer/lift placement. So far the GW reputation for customer support seems well founded.

You folks have some very nice boats. Hope we can join the club.
Thanks again

I have a 1998 Islander 268 with a Yamaha 250 ox66 .This boat is awesome it handles well in rough weather and has plenty of power .
