Hey guys I just bought a 1990 marlin 28 with twin 250 efi’s so far I love this boat but she is terrible on gas. What kind of economy are you all seeing from your marlins. I have 20pich 3 blade props and can not stay on plain under 4K rpms and max out at 5300 rpms at 32 mph

thanks

I have never heard of a Marlin 28; Only 30's. Not saying yours isn't; Just new to me.

My Marlin 300 has 19" props and 350's. I get 1.3 to 1.5 MPG between 3500 and 4000 RPM running between 31 and 36 MPH cruise.

What is "terrible on gas?"? (All boats have terrible mileage when you really think about it....) If your around 1.2, your in the ballpark with 250's.

I can offer no help as to why your numbers are off, but it sounds like incorrect props. You should be hitting 40 MPH full out and cruising around 28-30 MPH.

Good luck and I'll bet you get it solved; Lots of savvy people on here that can help. The Marlin is a great ride..get it dialed in and you'll have many happy voyages aboard.

One more thought..If your 250's are 2 stroke, such as OX 66's, your mileage could be less, 1.0 to 1.1, I'm guessing. I've never owned OX 66's but the consensus here is that A.) They're bulletproof. B.) If they're maintained, they're hard to kill.

Thanks the 28 and 30 are pretty much the same but the running surface is two ft shorter on the 28 it does not go past the integrated bracket. The engines are 2001 mercury efi’s 2 stroke I ran 10 miles the other day and burned 27 gallons. My mechanic is coming tomorrow to check it out but I’m definitely changing the props I have three blade 20 pitch right now but will be getting 19 pitch 4 blades soon

The mechanic came yesterday and checked it out. The fuel pump diaphragms were in pretty bad shape hopefully they will be in by the end of the week
