Is it a gas spring? Check out Attwood's line of springs. Especially the "Boost" model as it's a nice compromise between price and materials used. Been using them at the shop (and some personal boats) for many years and have been happy with them. I'm sure there are other brands that are good, as well. I would not use the typical automotive ones, though. You'll end up replacing them in short order.
