If I understand correctly the marlin hasn't changed much from when it was 28 marlin. My question is, according to Grady s website there is like a 1000 lb difference between the 28 and the 30 marlin. Anyone know why?

The original Marlins hull did not carry all the way back. It had a step up at the rear. Mayb that’s why .

There has been several design cycles since then, some other things:
- Beefed up transom for 4S motors 500HP to 600HP and then later from 600HP to 700HP rating.
- Aft redesign for large fishbox vs molded in seating.
- Larger windshield glass area.
- Hardtop was optional on the 28' and standard on the 30. My guess is this is the bulk of it.
