We have a 1983 Tarpon. Our boat is powered with a 2003 Mercury Optimax 135, V6. The motor is oil injected and runs great. Our only issue is that the motor is loud. When I am fishing with friends it is not an issue. When I am out with the family it is their biggest complaint. A friend has a Scout 180 CC. His boat is powered with a 2005 Honda 115 four stroke. He is looking at selling his boat. We have been toying with the idea of swapping motors. I would give him my Mercury and a little cash and pay for the swap. So my questions are. Is 115 hp motor big enough and do you see this as a wise decision?

Thanks,

Rick

I don't know the exact year for the Scout but from what I can find, your hull probably weighs at least 400 pounds more than the current Scout 190 (successor to the 180 I think). That extra weight along with the reduced power and additional weight of the 4 stroke leads me to suspect that the boat might be under powered with the 115.
