I recently purchased a pair of speakers for my 24.5 explorer. When I purchased the boat last season it didn't have a stereo installed and I'm planning to put one in. Any thoughts on where I can mount the speakers? The less evasive the better. Ideally I would like to mount them near the back of the boat facing forward so I was thinking of mounting them flush under the rear seats. However there are some access holes in the front of the fish box and cooler so it may be possible to do it here without cutting holes.

The speakers I bought are 6.5" pioneers and I will be running them to a head unit located in the storage box at the helm.

If anybody has done a similar project on this model Grady please enlighten me.

Thanks

I have a 2004 209 Escape, one set of speakers are under the Center Console, the second set....one under each rear seat.
You have a similar engine area and rear seats.

I mounted a pair of box speakers up under the gunnels. Under your gunnel, you should find a big 2 x 4 wood board or something like it. It's easy to screw in the speaker holders there......about halway between the rod holders. Take care to NOT use mounting screws that are too long! This kept them out of the sun and kept them dry. After 4 years with that boat, I never had to replace them......

Locating speakers under the rear seats does subject them to the elements.
This is where they were when I bought the boat last November.
Gary's location under the gunnel sounds a lot more protected.

When I had my 222 the speakers were located up under the gunnels. It was great in that it protected them from the elements but the downside was it blocks the use of the top under gunnel rod holder. Those rod holders really come in handy for storing gaffs and rods when fighting a fish. I'm planning to install a stereo on my 232 this spring and I'm thinking about 5"x7" box speakers mounted on the underside of the hardtop. Also, a friend had mounted his speakers in the open area to the sides of the helm chairs.
