My 228 arrived

Bids were $2600 to $4500 The shipper I chose was $2780+$200 to USHIP FEE'S+$200 for added insurance, Then I tipped the driver $400 A little much but my trailer lost a wheel bearing and the driver really came through for me.

That’s a pretty decent price. I think the reason for it being more expensive for me is that it was another couple hundred miles from one location to the other. That and at the time it seemed like they had so many people available that they could charge ridiculous prices for whatever. I’m guessing with everything currently going on that shipping companies are probably fighting for customers.

I bought a 1999 228 in North Carolina and had it shipped to me in California and it got here a couple hours ago. It's been interesting to say the least. The last few months I've asked for a lot of advice here and lot's of you really helped me with this purchase. I really want to thank

TUNAHUNTER, LITE TACKLE, Ky Grady and LONGSTREET you guys went above and beyond with your time and advice. I'm taking it to a lake tomorrow to get familiar with it before I head out for Salmon. I'm sure I'll be asking more questions in the days to come.

Wow this is five Grady white seafarer 228 new to the SF Bay Area that I personally know about Add number of Grady white owners that I’ve met this year all of them are incredible people and owners. Looks like mine will be definitely be the last one coming to the area.

A friend and new owner of a brand new 228 seafarer had a great idea to get them all in the bay later in the year his son has a drone with a camera love to take a video of them !

I am another Bay Area owner of a 228- 2004- bought it out of state as well and had a hassle at DMV until a lady there said she knew all about out of state purchases and made it go thru smoothly. as for the trailer inspection I knew someone who was a meter maid and she had a guy who had the qualifications to get it inspected - no problem with that. so you do not have to have a dmv person do the inspection.

the biggest problem here is that there are just two fuel docks - Sausalito and Gas House Cove. my beast is parked at a marina all of the time so loading gas is painful but I pretty have it down to a science and leave the house and return home within 90 minutes and have loaded 18 gallons myself. it costs me about 25 gallons to go on a salmon trip out the gate.

now I just have to figure out how to get some salmon - halibut and rock cod have been not issue, having some halibut for dinner tonight that was caught last monday.

enjoy your 228- its a great boat and very seaworthy here but avoid the high seas near the bar.

Yeah those new high-speed HP Scotty downrigger‘s are really nice but very expensive. They’re really nice for fishing for salmon early-season out of Santa Cruz and Monterey where you have to go 100 feet with the Down Rigger!

Salmon and rockcod season he’s only gonna get better and albacore is coming up I know you’ll be ready!

Well I finally finished the driveway. Rested up a few days and was able to do a few things with the boat. I installed one new Scotty downrigger. Installed a new Simrad GPS antenna, and started installing a new Simrad NSE 12 that I have had new in the box for a few years. I made an appointment for new brakes and wheel bearings on the trailer, Also have an appointment with a Yamaha tech next week. I'm having fuel pumps, filters, water separators and whatever else he recommends replaced. Bought new life jackets and a set of fenders.

Nice you’ll be ready soon ,nice installing new Simrad NSE 12 Wow nice 12 inch ,like to see pictures of that debating on putting a 12 inch Simrad on my GW.
Definitely be ready when that ocean calms down it’s been pretty nasty out there there’s a been a few guys going out there getting beaten up and catching fish at the gate slow out of the Bodega bay for Salmon.

I'll post pictures later. I mounted it on the roof next to the radio box. I bought it a few years ago for a pilot house boat, the boat was stolen before I hooked it up. I hit a snag today, I thought I could just connect my Simrad GPS antenna and my transducer directly to the back of my MFD but it looks like I have to connect to something and then on to the MFD. I use to have a friend who did this kind of stuff for me, but health problems have made him unavailable. I tried Simrad support but they were closed so I'll try again Monday.

You need something like a sonar hub. This is what I run. It also has numerous Ethernet hookups. You can run both a chirp transducer and a structure scan transducer.

However, once you start adding equipment to the network, there’s never enough Ethernet ports and you’ll need a hub of some kind. Simrad does use their proprietary Simnet connector for the NMEA 2000 interface.

I bought my NSE around 2015 and just took it out of the box. I have to do some more reading about this system. I'm only wanting to hook up the chart and a transducer, radar and A/P will be at least a year out. The guy on Ebay has 3 of the Sonar hubs highest was $275

Ok, for now you will need a Lowrance Ethernet cable (orange ends) long enough to run from your NSE to the Sonarhub. Amazon has them.

I read this post and noted afterword with some amusement that I had no idea what any of it meant.
