Name placement - transom or side?

I like the transom. Understated. It keeps the sides uncluttered. Our registration numbers are larger than in the US though.

To the original poster, just look at the beautiful lines of the Grady hull. This boat happens to belong to our member Freedom!!! Think long and hard before you ruin what you see there by plastering some words there that you think are cute. Freedom!!! did it right.....IMHO of course.

For a planing hull they need to be 15cm in height.

The placement is all personal preference. Myself, I'm not a fan of big, gaudy, boat names along the hull sides. Detracts from the beautiful lines of the Grady. Tastefully done on the transom is the better option.
When I bought my boat it had the PO's idea of a name on the sides. I already knew it was just a sticker so I had brought adhesive remover and a heat gun with me to Florida to remove it before I ever left for home. That evening after purchasing the boat, in the driveway of my VRBO, a few beers in hand, I went to town removing the big sticker. Looks so much better with clean sides.
