So, making a list...need input. If I pull the parts to replace something, I do not want to pull them again to replace something else so, I am going to list all the things I want to do, not in any order or time frame, and if you know what can be done together or what I am missing that can be done, it would be very appreciated. I am trying to come up with a budget and timeline.

1 - Exhaust kits
2 - Oil kit
3 - Plugs
4 - Possibly rebuild heads (with exhaust, I need to plan it at least)
5 - Re-paint engines
6 - Replace zinc
7 - Replace props

what props work best for twin 2004 4-stroke yamahas on a 270?

thanks all

Russ

lol.. i wish heh. It may come to replacing both engines .. who knows. I think they can last me another season... end of this year, if I have to save up 500 a month to get them fixed, may as well pay that much per month to get two brand new engines installed. I watched a video on replacing the exhaust aspects... pretty entailed job. I "can" do something like that....not sure I want to trust myself TO do it.. so, may be something I pass on. Knowing most techs...that will turn into "you need to do this this and this as well" and then, may as well have just bought two new engines. Not sure how much more it would be to swap over to Merc when the boat is set up for Yams though, but I always like Mercs.

If you don't have digital and want to upgrade, then it really doesn't matter....as you'd be pulling everything out. I went digital and it's awesome. I can't understate how tickled I am with the ease of use and control. Yamaha, Honda, Mercury, Suzuki, et al make some nice motors. I don't think you can go wrong. I had a really tough time deciding. But, I can say there is NOTHING I dislike about the Verado I purchased. Pulling spark plugs is a cake walk. Changing oil, etc...very easy. I've been on boats with yamahas and Hondas and they were great. The level of smoothness and quietness of the Verado is in a another league.

As with all things, I look at the monthly cost of an upgrade, as I would need to finance it all anyway.

If I take the "less expensive" route and buy all the parts I think I will need and do it all myself, I might get it all done well... I might screw it up. So, I plan the budget around someone else doing the repairs, and worst case. I will make the decision of whether I want to do this myself later.

At that time, I then evaluate how much I would have to set aside each month to save for that, vs how much it would cost per month (yes for more months.. heh) to get all new engines. Bottom line will be what I can afford each month.

So... lots of choices.. none are great, some are better... none of which will work today.. heh, but.. I will, eventually, have a solid boat... for now, I have a 16yr old boat.. and I am fine with that as I still think it is a heck of a boat.
