Hi I'm new to the forum, I'm currently looking at a 1977-78 25' kingfish that has been well maintained and is very clean. It has a 91 volvo 5.7 325hp with 120hrs on motor refit. rw cooled, 91 volvo outdrive w/duo prop, awlgrip paint, Raymarine C-80 gps, radar. New wiring, gas tank and lines What should I look out for?

Thanks!

Cool - another old one. In a boat that age I guess the list of things to check would be almost endless. Guess I would check engine condition, outdrive, take it for a good sea trial, the transom, fuel tanks, condition of the decks ie soft?, check for water damage to the cabin from leaks, fresh water system and all associated pumps, electrical system, and on and on. I would have a good survey done. Mine is an '83 and I love mine. Had it repowered two years ago and like it even better than before. All the mechanical stuff is done now and I am working on the cosmetics. I guess the big question how much are they asking? Will it be worth it to you. The old ones can be a lot of work but like I said I really enjoy mine.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the reply, he is asking 19k told me in December he would take 16k but i'm thinking that it will go for less than that. I know the guy. I kept my boat at the same marina as him. He has a good reputation for taking good care of his stuff. However the boat is 32 years old and the motor and outdrive are 18 years old. I guess my biggest concern is the wood core being rotted in one or more places, and a repower in the near future. He is big on the electronics, in other words he spent 3.8k on a Raymarine C-80 and is trying to recoup what he spent maybe...who knows. All I know is in two days i'll no longer own a boat and be in a good position to buy one with the market the way it is. I'm also looking at newer models (90-91) with outboard power.

Thanks
Rodney

16K??!! I bought an 85 Trophy Pro with twin rude 200's and a rebuilt trailer for 3500 bucks. It needed about 9k of work...But still......get rid of the 1 before the 6 and I think you found a deal.
