Yamaha makes a cable as do aftermarket manufacturers. They are just a little more expensive and probably have a diode in them to prevent your MFD’s from providing any data back to the motor. If you are not familiar with the way that a data bus works is probably better to just buy one of their cables.
I agree

This bus (?) is located under helm behind my current square gauges. There is another one at the stern close to engines. Where would I plug in and would it go straight to NEMA2000 backbone?

Again, these are 2006 F250s with date stamp March 2006.

ElyseM. Thanks for your input on this topic. Do not want to side track these valuable posts, but I want to do what you did, and connect my Command link bus directly to my NMEA 2000 backbone (short cord) as they are not far apart. I have a spare port on the Yamaha bus. Cannot seem to find the needed interface cord. Would you let mew know where you got yours, and if you don't mind the approx. cost? With thanks

Talk to SIM Marine or a dealer to sort the connections out on your engines. See if the engines have NMEA2000 or J1939 or both connections. Bridging J1939 to NMEA states that not all information is transferred. That may not be a problem but its expensive.

Since you have a chart plotter with J1939 connection why not have both busses? https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/616441 Maybe you can pull J1939 from Yamaha gauges closer to chart plotter?

One this I can absolutely tell you is I know what I don't know and this is it! I would talk to someone who does.

Jason, I think this cable will work if it is plugged directly in engine and you have a NEMA 2000 network. My motors and electronics are 2010. From what I have learned, I need to set up.a seperate NEMA network and then connect this go the Yamaha connector bar and finally go from the NEMA system to the back of my Garmin. I wish it was easier or we get to hear from someone in the same predicament who has actually done it. Hope the cable works on your rig. Thanks

Hopefully you will come across the solution. We are anxious to find one also!

Sounds like I’m going to need this cord and add another hub. I have no extra ports in the one behind my helm. Boat is ‘06 Grady 330 w/F250s.

i connected 2009 F350's to garmin 5212's. i used the yamaha gateway. plugs into the yamaha bus and N2K backbone for the MFD. there were other cheaper gateways but the yamaha only allowed one way communication so i thought it best to go that way. good uck, ron
Do you know part # for gateway you use?

Did you ever complete this connection? I'm looking to do the similar 06 Express, twin 06 F250s (going to Garmin). My existing Hub is filled so I'm thinking I need to add an additional Hub following the attached schematic. Then the J1939 connector from this new hub to the Garmins. Does this make sense?

I didn’t but I have the parts, extra hub and cord. May take another crack at this over the winter.
