I am installing new Garmin 1243XSV and 743 MFD’s, GMR 18 Radar Dome, GTU56 Transducer, GXM 54 sat radio, Fusion Apollo amp. I have read about the backbone connections, but the trans and radar plug directly into the 1243 and not the backbone. the 1243 does not appear to see the amp or xm sat unit, but does see the trans and radar (listing) in the connected devices. I have not linked the 743 to the 1243 yet. Any feedback on the correct/incorrect connections would be appreciated!

The Sat radio and fusion amp connect via a NMEA2000 network. The radar connects directly to the 1243. Of course the transducer connects directly as well. Your Nema 2000 net work requires a separate power source to power that network and plugs into the Nema 2000 outlet on the 1243. All of the Garmin components will plug directly into the 1243 via the Garmin specific Ethernet network cords. Your set up, identical to mine will require a Nema 2000 backbone powered and connections to your various Nema 2000 devices including your 1243 MFD.

Fusion radio connects to NMEA2000 buss. Not sure Fusion Amp does. GXM 54 has 2 audio ports to amp. 1243, 743 and GMR18 on Garmin marine network (ethernet). Transducers plug into the MFD - color matched connectors. Look at settings screens and list connected Garmin devices.

At some point you need to setup Active Captain on a notebook or phone. I use a mid-side iPad. Phone can do it but a pad is so much better. There are a number of posts here on GG that discuss Active Captain to update software and charts. You can also manage waypoint sets as well.
