Just purchased my first powerboat with original 200hp Yamaha that got a good checkup. The trim fluid was leaking so that will be fixed. Any suggestions on things to watch out for?
Thanks

Paul

Watch out for? Yes - your destination... with a 200HP on that boat you're going to get there awful fast! :)

How does the transom check out? Specifically the "bang cap" area (google that and/or search on this forum for that). This is about water intrusion into the transom wood core. This is a "hot issue" with many Grady's not just your model. Other than that, it's a pretty solid boat.

Always make sure the plug is in the transom drain before launching the boat.
“ If you see something, say something”, is a good practice when trailer boating, especially during the early stages. I was going to say, during the learning period, but that never ends.

I have the same boat (a 2001). About to repower while she's down for the winter. Like Dennis above said, making sure that the transom/bang-plate has been well cared for (re-attached and sealed if necessary, I did a non-cosmetic patching of mine several years ago with 5200) is priority. Agreed that a 200 HP is a lot of motor for that boat (I have a 150 and will stay with a 150 on the re-power). Also make sure your auto-bilge float still works if you moor or dock the boat of course. Can't think of too much else... it's been a very solid boat for me.

Thanks all. When we took it out for a trial run, while we were backing up slowly, water was coming in through the scuppers. Is this normal?

I used to have that issue occasionally (or I'd get water coming back into the scuppers if too many people went to the back of the boat). Those flaps can be replaced or I installed a different kind of scupper over the current openings (plastic with ping pong balls)... definitely did the trick.

How to you figure there is rot under the plate? Tap it? This is what the port side looks like. I don’t have any closer pictures just yet.
