New owner

Just purchased a 2006 Marlin. Thanks to Capnjim7, Shannon C., and Knot On Call for the tips on things to look over and ask. Took it out on a sea trial and it ran great and mostly smooth on some pretty rough and choppy seas for the Gulf of Mexico. It's a big heavy boat but it handled like a dream. I've never had twin motors before but I watched quite a few videos on docking with twins and was able to dock pretty smooth first try. The only real hickup was how smooth the throttle is into reverse. I sorta jerked the boat back my first time I slowed down. I did notice the RPM at WOT was around 52 with speed around 34. It was rough and windy but I assume the RPM has more to do with the props. So I'm hoping for a good day here soon so I can see what the actual numbers are. I'm not sure if they're the factory props or aftermarket. With these numbers so far is it worth looking at different props or is this about the numbers others are getting?

I guess that would help. It’s got the original 250’s. Not sure if there are different 250 options for the boat. I’m not sure on how it registers the speed. I’ll get that info tomorrow when I pick up the boat and post more pictures.

Congrats! Those 3.3 liters should turn 6K RPM without a problem. The RPMs seem low. Could be the props, could be the trim of the motor, or it could be you just have a more weight? I had that motor on my boat. I got 6100 RPM if you had a light load, the the curtains up and the motor trimmed just so. I repowered and the 4.2 liter for me tops out at 5,600RPM.

That's one of my two foot-itus boats if and when I move up. Lol. It's a sweet ride and enjoy her.

The f250s should be getting higher RPMs. It maybe a prop thing or a partially clogged fuel filter. Did you have the boat surveyed? if so here should be a record of what RPMS the boat ran on the top end. You can use this as a comparison. Since its a new to you used boat, its not a bad idea to replace the filters, service the engines so your starting with a clean slate.

So the hull is dirty. We just got her home yesterday. A lot of small barnacles and general funk from being kept in a wet slip. Going to work on cleaning those off. The report I got said they topped out at 5,500 RPM's. The dealer did all the filters and fluids when they took her in on trade. I got my speed off the "Speed Fuel" gauge on the dash. We had 4 adults and one almost teenager onboard for the test. No fresh water and I'm not sure of the fuel load. The screens for the bottom machine and radar weren't working. The brightness was way down on the radar and the bottom machine screen is ordered and will be replaced by the dealership. Friday is forecast to be a lot smoother so I'll work on her today and take her out again and get better information.

The salesman at the dealership said the previous (bought it new) owner was really detail orientated with the boat. I got the files with the boat so I have all the original manuals and (from what I can tell) receipts for everything except gas in there. I haven't checked the engines to see if it was a repower or if they've been repainted. There are a lot of documents to look through. It's actually the main selling point for the wife.
