Gulfstream
Hi there members - I’m still working slowly on the 98 Gulf Stream I recently acquired.

The purpose of writing this post is to get some ideas, photos and feed back as to where others have mounted decent sized sounders / gps screens.

My concerns are:
1) because I’m not tall I can’t reach the overhead electronics 1/2 width locker.
2) the size of the dash electronics locker does not lend it self to the new 12 and or 16 inch screens I think.
3) I need to wear glasses to see long distance so if drift fishing in the channels and standing at the back of the boat I’d like to be able to see the sounder for fish / bait / structure(I’d need my glasses on and a be able to see the screen)

I was thinking to be acquiring a single 12 or 16 inch SIMRAD.

I’m assuming that the lower dash electronics box will only accomodate a smaller 9 inch sized screen (possibly 2 side buy side)

Looking forward to peoples feed back

Marlin
I would remove the cup holders and move the chrome handle down to the right side of the cabin hatchway. That will free up some room. No matter what you things will be shoehorned in on your older boat just like my 92 marlin. Raymarine ev150 7in mfd and 9 in Garmin

have you thought about a mfd that isnt mounted in the helm? you could put a second screen on the back of your helm chair, or maybe even on a flip down mount on the back of your hard top. that would be dedicated to people on the fishing deck

What about the space above the steering wheel, the flip up glove box. You could close that area up and mount at the approp angle. I may do that in the future on my boat, lots of folks have done that on this site (mult models).

Think out of the box. Don't limit yourself to the 25 year old layout.

I have different boat but...here are some ideas...https://www.greatgrady.com/threads/265-x-flat-panel-dash.31837/

First- don't put your main chartplotter overhead. Looking up and using touch menus will kill you. I put a second " old" mfd up top to see sonar from the cockpit.

Put your main mfd in the space in front of the helm. In your line of sight while driving and easy to manipulate the menus. Remove the door and make a panel out of starboard. You can probably fit a 12" mfd if you cut some fiberglass.
You can get a dimensional template on the manufacturers website.

IMO .... One 12" touchscreen is better than two 9" Split screen is much more usable. You save money. Bigger is better.
