Okay, so going to throw this out there and see what you all do.

Honestly, I forgot what I had on my bay boat, but I think I had the Sirius 24nm plan for 29 a month.

Now, the stereo system on the new boat, I am told, is not working. The guy is sending the paperwork back and threw in a $600 check to replace an aft bilge pump and the stereo system. I told him he did not have to do that, but he is just a nice guy and insisted so...

The speakers are Kenwood and I bet work great.

I looked and the Sirius plan is 24nm for 29 a month or like 75nm for 60 a month. Seems nuts, but weather seems important...heh.

So, someone said get it through the radio, not sure what they are talking about, butimo, I will not see myself going past 24nm on a regular basis....but not sure if you can pay as needed if you want to go further.

So, you guys have more experience with this, if you were going to add a new stereo, and needed /wanted weather...what would you buy?

My list of stuff I think I need is:

1 - stereo?
2 - gps antenna
3 - sat antenna
4 - A second vhf antenna

Hrm, what am I missing?

Oh, today the Simrad RS35 I got for 171 and a Simrad nmea micro-c backbone.;)

See, Skunk...that is why they pay you the big bucks lol.

Yea, listening to the weather is far better than paying for a visual. Mostly just yakking. The shippers are headed to Florida so may have the boat by the weekend and was just debating what stereo to install when it gets here.

With a second chf, I can have the old one turned to weather and the new one on 16.

So, you guys do not use the xm?

Thought I would add the antenna just in case since it is not that expensive to add.

As far as a stereo, never really care about music, but nice to have a usb connection for the phone and I can load it with music

Nice;)

Still early, so I do not need to decide right away. I got the nmea 2000 backbone, as recommended, just trying to figure what anyennas I will need to prep for on the new top and make sure I get the right stereo that works with it all etc. I have a 10” Garmin fish finder, so will want to probably get a Garmin gps antenna and sat antenna, unless I plan to add a 2nd one and use Lowrance. Never used anything but Lowrance, but heard Garmin is top notch

So my xm weather comes through my Garmin 4212. The only real benefit I've noticed with mine is being able to see weather beyond my radar range. I do also have SiriusXM's radio run seperate through a JL audio mm100, music is important to me. The satellite weather has been nice on several occasions assisting me running between storms on the way in from 70+ miles out.

So, you pay the 60 a month subscription?

Not sure it would be worth a monthly thing for me....may see if they have a subscription I can upgrade for the weekends I plan to go further out heh.. I have seen plans like that on other things, but not sure if they have one.

Thanks!:)

Fairly certain they dont have a weekend or occasional plan. I could be mistaken but I dont recall that as an option. I pay $30 for the weather and 10 for the stereo. I also go 40-80 miles out as often as the weather allows so it's a decent value for me. There's one subscription above the one I chose and if memory serves it was $60. I didnt see the extra value for the extra services.

Yes, the $30 option has weather out to 24nm.. the 60 plan has it to like 75. Another reason to dislike Sirius.. lol..

No big deal. Mostly planning and daydreaming...

Thanks FTF
