I am getting rid of the walleye boats I have been running for some time and have purchased a Grady freedom 225. I intend on rigging this for great lake salmon, and for walleye fishing and family boating in MN. Can anyone tell me how a 9.9 high thrust kicker would perform on this boat?

I would think if it is for slow trolling it would be fine. Pulling a water skier not so much.

The 9.9 Yamaha is a staple here in Puget Sound for Salmon fishing. You can expect a max throttle of around 6kts. and an idle speed around 0.5 or so.

I had an 8hp on my 226 until it was borrowed by a tweeker. The 9.9 replacement has been excellent. I like the solid mount bracket over a lift bracket and a TR-1 on the kicker for steer and throttle control. Mine has electric start and tilt...a must have!

I have a 208 Adventure and put a Yamaha 9.9 high thrust kicker on it with power tilt and trim.
Make sure you get an extra long 25" shaft.
I also put it on a fixed mounting bracket.
And connected the fuel with the main tank and a 3 way valve.
For steering I just use the main engine as a rudder and it works fine.
It will push the boat up to 5 mph.
