I like how you fit the door into the bulkhead. Gives it a nice look.

You know, what '84 mentioned may not be all that far off. The Offshore/Weekender was one of the most popular models that Grady ever built... which means there's a lot of them out there... which means starboard replacement pieces at a reasonable cost might just sell very well. Keep an accurate templating system and you should be able to bang them out pretty quick.

The grooves you cut into the hatch covers are a nice touch!

That's funny that you mention that. I've done this to an 88 overnighter that I bought and sold and I also did it to my 88 seafarer that I'm currently selling. Also have done a few customers of mine and in the yard. Usually it's just the cockpit trim, doors, steps, hatches and sometimes bulkheads.

I usually just use the old teak as a template and some times make the new pieces an 1/8" bigger just so I have some room to correct my miters and get a nice joint. Even sometimes use the same holes so they go right back in.

If you start selling these pcs I'm expecting a kick-back!!

I bet you really could sell 'em though.....

Your '85 is gonna make my '84 look old........

Built a custom grab handle for a 52' Viking in our yard out of teak. It gets fastened to the ceiling and the handle ends up right at the door entering the salon. It also has a piece of 1 3/8" trim built into it and I made a seperate piece if trim for the other side of the salon. Thinking of doing something similar for my cabin but on a much smaller scale. Probably have to glass in some 1/2" material onto the ceiling since it's pretty thin.

We've also been building a couple of teak and holli floors which I will be making for mine. Not sure whether I'm going to use plywood and a teak veneer or just make it out of solid teak since it will be such a small piece it won't cost much. Here are a few:

Also stayed late tonight started framing the anchor locker piece I made:

I think it came out pretty good so far. Was thinking of plugging the counter sunk holes but I've never mind seeing mounting hardware.

Doesn't have to do with my build but finally finished one of two custom steps me and my father have been building for a 52' Viking in the yard. Still have to fill the spaces in with black life-caulk let it cure for a couple days then sand.

Working on some louver doors for the boat, waiting for this weather to break so I can get back to prepping the boat for paint.

Amazing Job! I have a 89 Seafarer I been working on and slowing knocking some projects off my long list (not as fast as you) and I am wondering what you used for material for replacing the rear hatch covers (fish, cooler battery covers) I am about to start that project and can't decide what to use. I am just replacing the left and right where my batteries (left) and oil res (right). my second question is how do you like the front floor door on the aux panel? Do you have a final product picture of that? I am thinking of moving my battery forward and been thinking that exact placement under that panel in which mine is completely empty and i could use it for storage and batteries etc.

Look forward to hearing from you! And again Great Job on this project

Appreciate the compliments. If you are referring to the rear hatch covers on my 24' I used King Starboard. The color is Sanshade. However I plan on painting my whole boat a darker cream color much like the newer Grady's thats the reason why I chose Sanshade. If you decide to build them with King Starboard go with Seafoam, it matches the older Grady color pretty good.

I haven't finished the front hatch yet, but I will gladly post pictures when I do. Just waiting for the weather to make up its mind and finally get warmer.

I think it is a good spot to relocate the batteries. Is it necessary? Definitely not, the original location for the batteries is fine. But I'm planning to use the original location for other things. I'm going to glass in a "shelf" for the batteries when the time comes. Haven't made up my mind yet where I'm going to mount a switch panel etc. I'm thinking maybe a tilt out hatch or something not sure yet.

If you are interested, I can build the hatch covers for you and send them to you, or you can pick them up if you're local. I would just need dimensions or your old ones.

Putting boat, and everything I've made for it up for sale. My side business has picked up immensely, have no time to finish. My 17' whaler will do for now.

OMG! I am doing a restore of my '84 GW Caribbean (24') and am THOROUGHLY impressed with your work! I would say that my restore is a "soft" restore while yours is a "hard" restore. I am envious of your facilities... I am a "shade-tree" restorer... all outside when the weather is on my side.

Very nice job! Can't wait to see more to learn and get some ideas... see the end product!

Wonder whatever happened with this and how it turned out. Did he find a top, or build it out of a straw and dental floss heh.

Amazing project.

Hey guys I ditched this project a long time ago. I was in the middle of a lot of other projects/work going on and felt overwhelmed and had little time. Ended buying the same boat but running and setup and have been working on it while using it.
