My father and I decided we might start to keep our eyes open for a pair of Yamaha 225's to repower my 1999 272 Sailfish. The OX66's run great, but some more efficient 4-stokes would be nice.
I know a lot of the early 225's have the corrosion issue. What years specific, from what I understand it is up to the 2007 model year. Were they all subject to corrosion in these years, or were only some effected. My budget isn't to going to warrant anything close to new motors. I see ads where sellers report their motors were scoped without issues present, could this be true, or they are not looking hard enough.
I consider myself handy with outboards. Should I find some that need midsections is this manageable for the backyard mechanic like myself? Also the cost, I remember seeing $1700 in parts are one point but not sure thats correct.
I plan on enjoying the boat this summer and in the fall start looking and make this a winter project should I find a good pair of motors. I have rigged a few OX66's so I would like I can manage.
Thanks
Andrew
