New (Used) Grady Marlin Owner, Hi!

Hello from Key Largo! We just purchased an 04 Marlin, absolutely love it!!! We came out of a Parker 2320 we owned for 14 years, then a long list of boats prior to that. The Marlin is the absolute best layout we have ever had. I am looking forward to learning and contributing here. Thanks!!!!

I have 225s. They have about 800 hours, and light pitting in the mid section. So I plan on replacing the mid sections this year, and running them for another few years, then replace with new 300s.

In February I bought a 2003 Marlin 30. We use it more for cruising with the local GW club and the marina yacht club than fishing.

They are solid boats. You will find a lot here on the Marlin. When you repower, take the time and address the aluminum bump strip and glass under it. Seal it up right and she should last another 15 years.

So sadly I have been using her so much since we brought her home 2 weeks ago we don't have enough pics yet!!!! Here are a few additional of her being loaded and at our dock in Key Largo. Some of these may be duplicates from the trailer thread (sorry). My brother in law and I are taking her out to the Islamarada Humps on Thursday for tuna and whoo.... I probably should not have said anything because now I won't catch fish ... But if I do, I promise I will post some pics!!!!!!!

Thanks for the advice! I am assuming you are talking about the pitted and corroded strip on top of my transom (sorry on the road so I can grab a pic)?? Is this something I should or can address now?? This is my first boat with transom mounted outboards (previous boats had armstrong or were inboards) and boat is stored most the time in the water.

I have the 225's as well. Despite what you may read elsewhere, I think the power is just fine. I comfortably cruise at 4800 rpms, 31 mph. The transom cap metal piece is a common point of corrosion. Mine is getting fixed this winter. The motors have to be pulled to do it so it's not a small job, but I'll have the exhaust midsections replaced at the same time. No corrosion on my exhaust but I'd like to get a few more years out of my F225's. 830 hours so far. If nothing else it will help with resale when it's time.

Tough if not impossible to do if you don't repower at the same time. They have a plastic strip today I believe. I guess you could cut it in half and install in 2 pieces (need to seal the middle) if you didn't do it when repowering.

mine had a wet transom when I bought her because of that useless alloy strip, it does not seal the transom at all
After some tlc she’s all good....
