During my search for a Grady, I have gotten confused over some things. What is the difference between a Sailfish, Islander, Marlin, or Voyager? When I look at images, I see very few differences. Am I missing something?

Future: Downloading brochures will give you a good start. Grady walk-arounds have similar lines, and, from a distance, or in a picture, can look similar.

But if you can get to a dealer or a boat show, (or look at the prices) you'll see a world of difference between the Voyager and the Marlin. The others fit in the gaps, incrementally.

Also, three of the boats you mention are no longer made, at least not under those names. The Voyager became the Journey with an extension of the running bottom and not much else changed. The Islander left with no obvious replacement. The Sailfish grew a bit and became the Chesapeake (sp?) 290.

Good luck in your search.

I'm hoping my memory serves me correctly....But the answer is primarily size. download the brochures but I believe the following without looking it up:

The Voyager was 24'7 (Same hull as the advance)

The Islander was 26'8 ( Same hull as the Chase)

The Sailfish came in many different lOA's...Basically a 25 with a eurotransom of late but it has been a 272 and a 282

The Marlin began as a 28 but was rebadged as a 30 when they measured the hull all the way back to the transom (Euro)

The first two have an 8'6 beam

The sailfish is 9'6 in all configurations

The Marlin was 10'6

I am not 100% sure of the exact accuracy of these numbers as I am recalling strictly from memory but the relative size differences are accurate....Please, no bashing...I'm getting old....

Same basic design between the boats. Look at the motors and see how big they look on each model if there isn't a person on it. 250's look kinda tiny hanging off the back of a Marlin where they eat up a decent amount of space on a Voyager. They go from a 4K pound boat to a 12K pounder.

They do look the same, whoever designed each succeeding one must have seen the previous one.

They just change scale as they get heavier and wider. In similar model years, materials, shapes, styles, and interiors colors were shared among the lot.
