I popped open the coffin cover on my 1985 offshore 24 that I'm refurbishing. My question is that although it looks good and looks to be an aluminum tank before I clean it up (I have not removed it) does anyone have experience with these? It looks original, no noticeable pitting or issues, can't see the bottom since I didn't pull it. comments...suggestions? Should I pull it for inspection or are these good? I'm leaning on pulling it.

That's an awfully long time if the tank is original. I believe the aluminum tank replacement average is 13 years. That being said, you will never know until you pull it. Corrosion is always worse underneath.

I have replaced them on 2 different Offshores. Cost for the main tank is about $1,100.00 on the south shore of LI. They have to be fabricated. Not too difficult to install.
Try Alloy Metalworks in Farmingdale. Make a sketch of the tank and they will give you a quote.

I pulled mine in my 1984 Seafarer. Top wasn't too bad. Bottom was. I had Patriot Marine Fabricating in NJ make mine. He makes GW size tanks. Paul Spisak. Great guy and great price and delivery ( I am in NW PA). You can checkout my videos on my YOUTUBE page if you want to see it.
I have a 1989 Seafarer and just replaced my original tank. Top looked ok but bottom where it sits on pads was deeply pitted. Paul at Patriot Marine in Forked River NJ made mine, He has all the dimensions just had to tell him the year and model and main or auxillary tank .Took him about 10 days and I picked it up, I believe price was $792.00 plus tax and he installs new sender and pick up. Bobbyw just noticed your from Montrose I am from Peekskill but live up near Newburgh now.
On UCPA111's recommendation, I used Patriot Marine as well, couldn't be more satisfied. I did upgrade the sender as he uses Moeller, to a Wema/KUS and installed myself.

On the advice of an old boat yard guy, I coated mine in West System 105 epoxy and a layer of chopped strand fiberglass to minimize any future pitting or corrosion issues. Everywhere my tank touched something, it had pitting corrosion, mostly on the top of the tank.
