Oil tank 95 Grady Tournament

Hi,
I am soon to be a new owner of a 95 GW Tournament with a 95 yamaha 200hp, 2 cycle.

This is the first time I have owned a large 2 cycle. I am used to diesels. Here is my question: I have a plastic oil tank ( looks about 3 gallons in size) mounted in the aft bilge space. Is this a vacuum system, motorized pressure or what? I have not taken delivery of the boat yet so I can't study what I have. I would appreciate knowing what should be going on before I add any rec fuel.

I am feeling pretty stupid not knowing how this works. I would appreciate any helpful comments.

An easy way to "see" what you have is to look at any online parts diagrams ("parts fiche", if you know what I mean). Just look it up by year and model, although this is a pretty generic part.

Essentially you have that large, plastic, boat-mounted tank that feeds the smaller, engine-mounted tank. There is a small pump on the backside of the boat-mounted tank that pushes oil to the engine-mounted tank (when called for by the float switch in the engine-mounted tank). There is also a small strainer inline with the little pump's hoses - it's a good idea to remove that and clean it. I'd also drain out all of the oil and then give the inside of the tank a good cleaning, just for good measure.

FYI, the bracket that holds the boat-mounted tank in place is expensive. Something like North of $80 (maybe more?). If you need a new one (they rust out), just grab a $10 battery hold-down kit (the tray kind). Works perfect.

Definitely worth draining the tank and replacing the filter in the bottom of it. It's not a difficult job, but you do need to dispose of the oil. The filter is about $20 or so.
