I have a 1999 Grady White 272. It has an old thru hull transducer with 8 pin 10 if you count 2 in middle connection. Appears to be original.
Will this unit work for Garmin? Raymarine? Replace?
That is a Airmar 744 transducer. You should have a label on the cable near the transducer or on the other end. Dual frequency 50/200. The center section is a paddle-wheel speed and temp sensor. It's a good all-around transducer. If you are deep water ocean fishing it's probably not choice.
Garmin chartplotters supports 12-pin transducer connection. Chartplotters ship with 8-pin to 12-pin adapter.
I have two Garmin 1243XSV chartplotters. One is connected to a Garmin GT56UHD transom mounted transducer, but the other reads bottom off my old Airmar thru hull transducer. I like having the Airmar as a backup and it still provides a good bottom picture and the same depth readings as the state of the art unit. It’s also more resilient to damage than a transom mounted transducer.
