I had an onboard battery charger on my previous Boston Whaler and really liked it. It was a Guest Sportsman Center 10A/10A.
Has anyone installed a charger on a Tournament 225? If so, where did you locate it and which manufacturer and model did you use? My main use for it is to keep the batteries fully charged when I'm away from the boat for a couple of weeks at a time. I seldom run any DC accessories while it is plugged in. Maybe the stereo occasionally during detailing and waxing. Thanks.

Okay everybody........After 57 views and no responses I can only deduce that either no one has put a battery charger on a Tournament 225 or it really isn't necessary. Therefore I've decided to live with the boat for a while and let experience be my teacher.

Chris, you can put a battery charger on any boat, don't know where you would mount it though on yours.

Promariner makes nice waterproof saltwater tested units, UL approved.

I don't see that much of Guest anymore, they used to be big players in chargers & galvanic isolators.

If you are not using the boat for weeks at a time and you leave the boat last trip with batteries fully charged, no reason to be concerned with them discharging, unless you think the boat will take on water and cause the pumps to run very often.

Keeping a boat plugged into shore power exposes the boat to potential stray current issues - another maintenance item.

Bob,
Thanks for your reply.Out of 105 viewings yours is the first reply so I guess there is really not much call for the on board charger. My boat lives on the trailer so the bilge pump and stray current issues really are not a problem. I think I'll just save my money for now and see if it really becomes an issue. Thanks for your input!

Chris,

You really won't need it, unless the boat sits for months at a time.

Once you put it on the trailer and put the cover on it, flip the battery switch to "off" to keep anything from draining it. Check the water level, and remove the batteries in the winter and bring them home.
