I'm considering getting a used Marlin 300 as they look like a great boat. The slip I have maxes to 35' 7 inches. Can anyone tell me the approx measures from pulpit bow tip to the rear of the outboards assuming 225 yahamas as outboards? Would appreciate the help.

Figure the it extends past the mounting point about 24" - but you can probably google and find the exact specs if that's not close enough for whatever model year you're talking about. Next, go to Grady's website and look at the specs for the particular boat model year you are talking about and just add the two numbers together.

If anything, I'm probably only off on that 24" by a few inches. That will likely get you close enough - but if you're really close, then we need to get more exact.

Oh... you probably need to know the length with the OB tilted up, right? That's more like 48".

What limits the max length for the slip? The hull does not necessarily need to be completely 'covered' by dock.

30'6" with out the pulpit. Snap a line 32". If you include the engines out of the water (some do) add another 18".

I just went through all of this for my slip - - 37'3" with the pulpit and engines up (300's). Grady White spec sheet shows an LOA of 402" with the pulpit and to add 29" for engines (again, 300's) down. They do no provide a measurement for engines up out of the water, but mine measured out at the 37'3". Hope this helps.

I was thinking the same thing. The stern of my boat hangs out at least a foot or two past the end of the dock. I have fenders horizontally mounted all along the edge of the dock, and I hang an additional one with rope tied through the gunnel rod holder, since the rear cleat would have the fender hanging with nothing to bump against.

The only thing I can think of, is less protection from other boaters coming in and out of the marina?

At least for me, it had to do with what the marina allows. They would not allow me to take a 35' and stick out the two extra feet. This was the case in 3 marina's that I checked out, so perhaps a regional (SF Bay Area) way of handling it. With that said, very few boats in my marina stick out beyond the end of the slip and very few have a pulpit hanging over the main dock. One thing to consider is that if your motors are up, they are exposed to other boaters if the marina is tight. I ended up with a 50' slip, so another boat would need to come into my slip about 8-10' to create a collision. At least one shorter slip I looked at would have had me sticking out at an end slip with a tight corner - - no real protection from other boats.
