Paint Maintenance

7/27/19 Just had my 1992 Explorer's side walls painted a dark GW Blue. Did this due to gelcoat having been completely "made over" some years ago. Apparently the existing gelcoat would not withstand another "doover"? Wanting to do my best to maintain the color. I have a new cover that fits over the side walls almost colmpletely covering the new paint job while in the Lift and Boat Yard. What should I have done on at least an annual basis to maintain the dark blue color?

Is there something that can be done to prohibit varmets and birds from using the under cover area?

What is a "side wall" on a boat?

I've been around boats for about 60 years but never heard that terminology.
