Thanks in advance guys, My 1st post. I recently took a trip from mathews county Va. Down the bay through Norfolk. Went down the intacoastal water way to the outerbanks, stopped at CoinJock fro lunch and take on some fuel, while refueling one engine shut down on its own, when finished fueling it fired right up, left the dock and then starboard eng shut down 30 secs later the port engine also shut down, Didn't appear to overheat, checked water from pee hole on both engines, water felt to be at normal temp. Pumped both bulbs about 50 time apiece , (Which is abnormal,) usually only have to pump them about 7 to 8 times apiece to get them hard, Anyhow they fired right up no more problem going down there, running offshore one day,no more problems until On the way back home and about halfway back up the ditch while waiting for a bridge to open it done the same thing. Any thoughts on this from anyone? I'll give a little more detail, I have a 2003, 330 express, with twin 225 yamahas 4S about 900 hrs on motors, I had it for appr. 2yrs. Haven,t had this problem before, Was traveling with three other boats that were quite a bit slower than me, I was bringing up the rear, Unable to go much faster than 7 to 10 mphs while navigating the intrcoastal due to traffic, I was wondering if my problem was caused by not being able to let the boat get on plane and run, It was around 90degrees both days, One of the guys on the other boat thought maybe motors had got to hot and vaporlocked the engines, Or was Ethanol the problem,( Vaporized while the engines were idling ) causing the vapor lock. Has anyone here had the same thing happen to them and if so what was the problem, By the way boat hasn't miss a beat since then. Thanks again!! :praise

I don't think it would be vapor lock on those fuel-injected engines. Since they both did it, maybe something common to both. Could the fuel tank vent be clogged, causing fuel starvation? Do you have a main and an aux tank (that's the way my 282 is set up), or just one tank? If two, did you try switching fuel selector valve to aux? Something seems wrong to have to pump the ball 50 times. I have never pumped the fuel squeeze balls on mine. Come to think of it, I don't know if I even have them. My boat is an 02, with F225's.

By the way; nice trip!

Pardon my arrogance but if I read your post correctly, you said the engine shut down while refueling. If that is correct and you do fuel with the motors running, I suggest that you reevaluate your life insurance policy. Hopefully, I interpreted your statements incorrectly:)

You didn't say if the bulbs collapsed when the motor died . That would help determine if there was a vent blockage or a fuel line blockage. If you were running the motors and you have the combo fuel/vent fills, then the vent was blocked during refuelling if the fuel hose had the rubber seal on it and the nozzle was pressed into the fill.
None of that explains why the motor starved later on. If you really had to pump the primer 50 times to fill, either there is an air leak or the tank is empty which doesn't seem to be the case unless you were filling one tank and running on the other.

Capt. Bill I thank you and seasick for your replies, I don't believe the vent hose were obstructed unless they became so when tanks were topped off. The primer bulbs didn't collapsed, but were soft. Seasick I was not running the engines while refueling, The port engine shut down while i was waiting to be refueled , By the way the generator never stopped running during both icidents of motors shutting down, And yes i was running the generator while refueling this day because of the heat. Wife can't tolerate but so much heat. Tanks were only app. 50 percent empty when I stopped to refuel. I topped off both tanks for next day's off shore trip. Still wondering what was the cause! :hmm
