Trapper, we had a similar encounter with white sided dolphins a few years ago off Pine Island out of Port Hardy. We were anchored and bouncing bottom for halibut, these dolphins were screaming very close around the boat and then submarined to the bottom, caught my braid fishing line and was peeling line off, I had to grab my knife and cut the line or they would have spooled me. Very cool to see though.

Maybe they were carrying your bait to where the halibut were
