Piece of Paper in Fuel Tank

Hi all,

So, this is frustrating ... and embarrassing. While opening my fuel additive yesterday, the circular piece of paper between the top and the cap fell off, and the wind blew it right into the gas tank. I couldn't have done that if I had tried! So, now I have a nickel-sized piece of cardboard paper in my tank.

What to do?

Disconnect the fill hose from the tank and flush it out. Good chance that piece is sitting in there still.

What to do?

It happens a lot. Usually it doesn't cause a problem. If you are running and the motor starves for fuel, just shut it down and wait. The cap liner probably will fall off of the pickup.
Even if you decide to go 'fishing' for it, you have a hard time finding it especially if it sticks to the side or bottom of the tank away from the pickup area.

Depending on the stiffness of the item and I assume it is a bottle cap liner, it wont pass the screen on the pickup if there is one. It won't fit in the fuel line and probably can't get past the anti-siphon valve.

Thanks everyone, that's a relief. GW204, I might take your advice, after I finish troubleshooting another issue.

It might do you some good moving around in the tank cleaning and knocking stuff off the inside on the tank. Just a theory.
